CO-ME-DI-A initiative supports the development of networked collaborations between European venues and institutions active in the domain of digital performing arts. The partners work to establish a robust platform for networked artistic and cultural interactions. The project specifically aims to encourage artists to create collaborative works and engage in cultural exchange within the CO-ME-DI-A infrastructure. The activities include interdisciplinary research, quality trans-national training sessions and workshops for professionals, residences particularly aimed at young professionals, and last but not least distributed networked performances and installations presented to general public, all of which use the network as a core for cultural interactions. In order to support innovative distributed production of artworks and to enable more efficient formats of circulation of artistic and cultural products, we address creative use of existing advanced technologies such as broadband telecommunication networks and powerful digital processing tools. Primary goals:
* Doing and learning networking through public events, workshops and residencies.
* Creation of a common platform for efficient communication and expression.
* Organization of residencies in order to develop the technical and artistic content.

Prague collaborative workshop

The event´s focal point was presented by a collaborative workshop with public manifestation focused on network elements for distributed performances with a special emphasis on connection of advanced motion capture system and 3D software. The objective was to test prepared software parts during a real-time performance setting, featuring dancers and musicians performing simultaneously in four European locations. Rehearsals and final distributed performancepresented to over 90 audience members in four different cities across Europe (Prague, Madrid, Dresden, Norrkoping). Another performance of this kind, entitled “Polygons”, took place in June 2010 on the main square of the Czech historical city of Telc. Photogallery available here.

CO-ME-DI-A workshop in CIANT

A three day experimental workshop exploring virtual/physical presence and networked interaction was held at CIANT Lab during the last weekend of February. Resident interactive sound artist Pierre Proske and Canadian electronic visual artist Rob King explored real- time interaction in a visualisation of networked distance coupled to a gesture and motion driven sound design. Working together with a
dancer they explored the possibilities of play between physical and
networked spaces.
